Cameroon-Saudi Arabia : Enhancing General Cooperation Agreement

Minister Felix Mbayu defended the draft bill before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly on November 15, 2022.
Within the framework of enhancing bilateral relations between Cameroon and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a bill to ratify the General Cooperation Agreement between the two countries, signed in Yaounde on November 10, 2021 has been defended at the National Assembly. The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu defended the legal instrument on November 15, 2022 before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly headed by Hon. Bamni Emmanuel.
Explaining the pertinence of the Bill to lawmakers, Minister Mbayu said it is aimed at strengthening friendship between the two countries, consolidating historic ties, and developing bilateral cooperation in the areas of investment, economy, trade, education, science, culture, tourism, sports, security and the fight against terrorism. The legal instrument, the Minister added, falls within the context of the Head of State’s will to diversify relations and consolidate relations with traditional partners amongst which is Saudi Arabia. “The Bill covers two main areas; our bilateral and multilateral cooperation. From the bilateral perspective, it covers trade, mining, fight against terrorism. But most importantly, it gives us the opportunity to work together and protect our citizens. Henceforth, on the basis of this agreement, there is a lot that can happen between us,” the Minister explained.
