Bernard Okalia Bilai spoke after he chaired a security meeting in Limbe recently.
Top administrative and security personnel of the South West Region met in Limbe on November 23, 2022 convened by the Regional Governor.
Their mission was to evaluate the situation on the ground and chart a way forward in protecting persons and property as well as development in the area. “The security situation in the South West Region is under control as separatists armed groups have been pushed to a few remote areas”, has asserted the chief executive, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai as he concluded a full-day regional security confab. The Governor also announced that some 36 purported chieftaincy positions have been annulled in Fako Division following Sub-Divisional Committee investigations on the escalating abuse of chiefdom creation. According to the Governor, the investigations were triggered by complaints from elected people's representatives. The Governor equally praised the traditional rulers that has helped to denounce some armed activists and even paid the price in some cases with their lives and ransom.
The Governor said internally displaced persons due to the separatist crisis had started returning home in many areas and bringing normalcy to the Region in terms of socio-economic activities. However, he pointed that the populations of Buea and Limbe were almost doubling by people seeking havens for security.
