Preparation : Cameroon Shows Positive Signs

The Intermediate Lions ended their friendlies in Tunisia on January 9 on a reassuring note, recording one win and two draws, despite minor lapses in finishing and defence.

Two days to the kick-off of the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria, football loving Cameroonians have reasons to count on the Intermediate Lions to produce a laudable output. The assurances were given by the performance of the players in their friendly matches played within the framework of an over one-week acclimatisation camp in Tunisia. Three friendlies were played in this platform and the balance sheet is encouraging. One win, two draws, four goals scored against two conceded.
Apart from the results, what is equally reassuring is the progress in the quality of play produced by the team from the first to the last friendly. As for the match that pitted Cameroon against Uganda (1-1) on January 5, 2023, it could be noticed that the players were still getting used to each other and were yet to grip the flames of international friendlies. In the second against Côte d’Ivoire that equally ended on a 1-1 draw, one could see a lot of improvement in terms of play construction. There were concrete passes and well-coordinated play. The last game against Sudan came to crown the good play as it produced a hope-raising victory for the Lions. In all, the local Lions portrayed a good image in terms of ball possession and management of spaces with a present midfield in the three encounters.
