2023 Women’s World Cup Playoffs : Who’s Who In Cameroon’s Squad

A review of the performances of the 23 Lionesses called up for this tournament gives middling hopes as more efforts are needed to overpower Thailand before meeting Portugal.

Cameroonians are now fixed on the faces expected to help the country pick one of the last three available tickets in the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup. In effect, Coach Gabriel Zabo recently made public the list of 23 players that will defend the colours of Cameroon in the 2023 Women’s World Cup intercontinental playoffs to kick off on February 17, 2023 in New Zealand. Three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and six attackers is the number of elements in each compartment of play. On the list, Coach Zabo laid his confidence on 17 players he used in the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and believes that they have what it takes to win Thailand to be eligible to play Portugal in the final. CT thus reviews the performances of these players ahead of the tough challenge.
Goalkeepers
Coach Zabo called up a trio in this compartment of play headed by Goalkeeper Ange Bawou of Bayelsa Queens in Nigeria. They are just four matches into the 2023 Guinness Super League but have a backing in previous seasons. Marthe Ongmahan for example won the Guinness Super League twice with Awa FC before moving to Lékie this season.

Out of the seven called up, only Claudia Dabda that was rather in the midfield in the Moroccan expedition was now introduced to the defence. She recently moved to France after a wonderful stay in Belorussia. Her presence is thus reassuring and so is that of Colette Ndzana Fegue who was the revelation in the last AFCON. She equally recently left Belorussia for a more competitive championship in Spain. Claudine Meffometou, Marie Aurelle Awona, Estelle Laura Johnson and to a lesser extent Doudou Ousmanou and Eliane Mambolambo are guards who breath experience.
Midfielders
This is another mini subset of the AFCON list but breaths the return of Charlène Meyong Menene and the call up of home-based Catherine Bengono of AS Fortuna that was rather used in the def...
