Elected at 37, the now 40-year-old is one of the youngest elected officials the country currently boasts of.
Naming Mayors in Cameroon cannot be completely done without highlighting one of its youngest. The Banka Council in the West Region is headed by Joseph Clovis Nguessieuk, a proactive youth by all standards of professional life. More interesting, he is not of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM). He was elected on the ticket of the Cameroon National Citizen Movement (MCNC) in February 2020 during the municipal election and took an oath of office in April 2020 before the Bafang Court of First Instance.
Social and traditional media present him as a practical mayor, who is always on the field, evaluating work with the objective of seeing that promised and earmarked projects are completed. He constantly reiterates his willingness to work to bring drinking water, roads, schools to the people of his municipality. Organising collective marriage ceremonies to allow families already living in a relationship for years to have a marriage certificate and thus be in compliance with the law, and facilitating the process of obtaining birth certificates for children born in the Banka municipality.
