Minimum Wage : Law Sanctions Defaulters

This is governed by 1992 law No 92/007 of the Labour Code in the country.

Minimum wage in Cameroon is governed by Law No.92/007 of August 14, 1992 of the Labour Code. The same law stipulates the text of implementation on one hand, and the Collective Agreement of the branch of activity concerned. The law also outlines the professional categories and related wages to be determined by negotiation within the framework of the collective agreements or establishment agreements provided for in the law.
The government, through a Prime Ministerial decree, fixes the foundation of any salary scale of the guaranteed inter-professional minimum wage. 
Article 64 of the law indicates that the minimum rate of pay and the conditions of remuneration for any work shall be posted in the places of work. According to the law, the employer is required to provide housing for any worker he has displaced in order to perform an employment contract requiring the worker to be installed outside his usual residence. This housing, the law underscores, must be sufficient and decent, corresponding to the worker's family situation, and meet the conditions set by an order of the Minister of Labour, issued after the opinion of the National Labour Advisory Committee. The law also reveals that if the employer does not have housing, he shall be required to pay the worker concerned a housing allowance, the minimum rate and the terms of allocation of which shall be fixed by the above-mentioned order. The employer is also obliged to ensure the regular supply of foodstuffs to any worker he is accommodating if the latter cannot obtain them by his own means.
In a bid to ensure that the law on minimum wage is respected, article 114 of the law indicates that any person who sets up an enterprise or establishment of any kind shall make a declaration to the labour inspectorate of his jurisdiction.  An order of the Minister in charge of labour will be issued after consultation with the National Labour Advisory Commission.
