“Yango” Platform Suspension : Implementation In Limbo

Despite the ban from the Minister of Transport, the urban transport system is still operational as the decision awaits enforcement.


On February 6, 2023, the Minister of Transport, Ngalle Bibehe Jean Ernest Massena through a press communiqué announced the suspension of the “Yango” digital platform involved in the urban transport system in the town of Douala and Yaounde. The application of the decision is seemingly challenging for the Ministry of Transport. The “Yango” digital platform is still operational and many inhabitants in Yaounde are using the application to order a ride from their door steps. A source at the Ministry of Transport says it is the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications that has the competence to shutdown the platform. Whereas, sources at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications say they have no role to play in the “Yango” saga.  
In a chat with a source that opts for anonymity at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, it was revealed that the decision was taken by the Ministry of Transport and they have no role to play in that decision. The source acknowledged the fact that at the beginning the “Yango” file was being handled between both ministries. But to suspend the service, the same approach was not taken.
