President Paul Biya Saturday April 29, 2023 received in audience President Faustin-Archange Touadéra who was on a friendly and working visit on the invitation of his Cameroonian peer.
The route covered in bilateral relations between Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR) has come under review in Yaounde as leaders of the two friendly and neighbouring countries look forward to more than ever working in synergy to revitalise their economies and better the living conditions of the peoples. The friendly and working visit paid Cameroon Saturday April 29, 2023 by CAR President, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, on invitation of his Cameroonian counterpart, Paul Biya, had a double undertone judging from the geographical setting of the two countries and the weight of their leaders in the central African sub-region.
Although nothing filtered out of the over two-hour audience, it is likely bilateral cooperation between the two countries as well as sub-regional integration dominated the discussions. Cameroon is a strategic neighbour and partner of CAR in development and peace-keeping.
The country has been contributing Defence and Security Forces within the framework of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Records even show that out of the over 11,650 peacekeepers in the MINUSCA Mission, Cameroon provides about 1,070; comprising the infantry battalion, gendarmes, military observers and individual police officers who hold diverse positions of responsibility within the organs of MINUSCA. Meanwhile, Cameroon is also host to thousands of CAR refugees fleeing unrest in their homeland. Going by data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Cameroon is haven to more than 350,000 Central African refugees, most of whom have found hospitality in the neighbouring Eastern Region of the country. Some of them have been willingly returning home with support from Cameroon. President Paul Biya’s experience in handling complex internal and regional political crises and expressed goodwill make him a model for many leaders who quite often do consult. Cameroon and CAR are therefore birds of a feather who need to be each other’s keeper.
President Faustin-Archange Touadéra’s friendly and working visit to Yaounde came barely a month after the CAR President took over the baton of command from his Saturday’s host as President of the Conference of CEMAC Heads of State during the 15th ordinary conclave which held in Yaounde on March 17, 2023. It is worth recalling that while handing over the CEMAC mantle to his CAR counterpart, President Paul Biya said, “I would like to express our confidence in him and our willingness to work with him for the progress of our Community and in the interest of our brotherly peoples… I am convinced that under his leadership, our Community will win more victories on the path to its integration and economic emergence.” Real assurance for partnership and confidence in what unity can fetch! &n...
