Professional Football Championship : Premature Exodus Of Players

Hopes who could keep the local league more vibrant and competitive, are fleeing off abroad in search of greener pastures.

At a time when football stakeholders in the country are currently craving for a very competitive championship, the domestic league is rather separating with talents who would have improved the game. Amongst several reasons for this premature exodus of players, is the search for greener pastures. But what is sad about this is that it is not always that rosy on the other end. Taking a sample from the past three seasons of the championship, most of the players who have had their heads high, no longer ply their trade for the MTN Elite One competition. Some might have moved to more competitive championships than Cameroon, but others are simply jumping from one outfit to the other, yet to find a comfortable landing point.
In fact, the tendency is that the moment you start sprouting in the domestic league, news immediately begins surfacing on you leaving the country. Many would have loved to see the likes of Marou Souaibou, Bertrand Mani, Adolf Enow Nkembe, Félix Oukine, Jerôme Ngom just to mention but a few continue to animate the local league. But they have all left and their adventures are yet to live up to expectations.
Others will run off when the slightest opportunity shows up and when it becomes sour out there, the rush back home. Not with the intention of staying but are just keeping feet, showcasing their talent waiting to move again. Players’ agents often jump on the most profitable deals without envisaging where the career of the athlete is moving to.
