On the side-lines of the just- ended Paris Summit for a New Global Financial Pact which held in the French capital on June 22-23, 2023, Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya, took time off to visit and enjoy the grandeur of the “Le Domaine de Trianon,” (The Estate of Trianon), home to the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon palaces, as well as the Queen’s Hamlet and a variety of ornamental gardens located in the heart of Paris. Designed for more intimate moments, the royal estate contains architectural gems and magnificent gardens whose diversity and ornamentation give it a unique charm.
The First Ladies therefore had a good feel of its splendour. Mrs Chantal Biya and her peers massively honoured the invitation of the First Lady of France, Mme Brigitte Macron who took them through the niceties of the estate and they got explanations at each stop on how the royal estate functions and what it represents to France and the world. The visit of the First Ladies on Friday June 23, 2023 began from the Petit Trianon after which there were stopovers notably at the Queen's Hamlet; the Petit Théâtre before the final stop at the Jardin des Parfumeurs. The First Ladies under the moderation of Ms Catherine Pegard had the opportunity to sail through the path of the estate and its importance in French culture. Mrs Chantal Biya and peers were taken through the long history of the Palace of Versailles, as the estate is also known, from when it started at the 17th century till its present state. It was first a hunting lodge, then a seat of power, and finally, from the 19th century onwards, a museum. Composed of the Palace, the gardens, the Park, the Trianon estate and several buildings in town, today the Estate of Versailles spreads over more than 800 hectares in the French capital, Paris.
