Paris Summit On New Global Financing Impact : President Paul Biya’s Significant Involvement

As the more than 180 representatives from 32 countries and regional organisations, 27 international organisations and financial institutions and 54 representatives from civil society, comprising non-governmental and philanthropic organisations and businesses, settle back in their respective countries after participating in the June 22-23, 2023 Paris Summit on New Global Financing Impact, the anxiety of the population to feel the spinoffs of the much-trumpeted conclave is certainly mounting. Understandably so as the public and private actors gathered in Paris affirmed their collective determination to address the joint climate, nature and development challenges through increased global cooperation. Precious issues that touch on the daily realities of the world’s economy and notably the lives of the people. In fact, they took a series of engagements that will contribute to updating the international financing system – almost 80 years after the creation of the Bretton Woods institutions – and to improve the protection of global public goods necessary to secure and heal the planet while ensuring affordable financing for the poorest economies across the globe. In effect, they shared their assessment of the current global challenges and of the most promising avenues of work, through various discussion formats. To say the least, it was indeed a hoperaising gathering whose fruits are highly awaited by nearly all.

President Paul Biya’s Remarkable Presence
Cameroon’s first couple had a busy schedule in Paris with a remarkable participation in the just-ended Summit on New Global Financing Impact and other side-line activities. From the time Paul and Chantal Biya got into the French capital Wednesday June 22, 2023 till when the summit ended Friday, their timetable was full as they took part in all the articulations of the two-day conclave and made their presence felt in one way or the other. Obviously so as the overall objective; setting up an architecture that will be robust enough to deliver more resources, protect the world’s economy from possible economic or geopolitical shocks and meet the strongest standards of fairness in the international community that can lead to global poverty reduction, couldn’t leave any responsible and people-centred leader indifferent. The Head of State braved all odds to attend the opening ceremony of the Paris Summit on New Global Financing Impact at the Palais Brongniart. The Cameroon’s delegation keenly followed the Summit’s opening speeches which focused on the need for global solidarity and an innovative approach in tackling all-encompassing challenges confronting the world notably global warming, health, debt and poverty. Even before rounding off the deliberations Friday, President Paul Biya and peers took part in a working dinner the French Presidential couple offered participating Heads of State and Government as well as leaders of international organisations at the Élysée Palace. The same vitality was shown during the closing in which the Cameroon’s leader fully participated in a high-level dialogue wherein the leaders focused on, “Prologue: The Paris Consensus, what avenues for the coming months.” The Heads of States and other world leaders all agreed that the world needs a qualitative leap. This entails suitable and resilient investments.
