South West : Muambong Uses Football To Uphold Peace

The day was bright as the sun beamed across Muambong on a typical August day as if the ancestors of the land had approved the holding of the Mumabong Football Tournament for Peace and Social Cohesion, with a cash prize of FCFA 1 million donated by one of their illustrious son, Ngole Elvis Etuge. Both the young and the old, men and women thronged the Muambong community field to witness the final of the football tournament that aimed at sustaining peace and social cohesion in the area that was once affected by the armed separatist insurgency rocking the English-speaking regions of Cameroon since 2017.
Chief Nkwelle II Peter Atabe of Muesok village just like other indigenes saluted the initiative saying it has enliven the community after about five years without such gatherings.
The emotions on the faces of the people were revealing of how thirsty they were to see the return of such ambiance, conviviality, love and unity in the clan as eight teams representing the different villages of the Muambong clan battled to emerge champions. ‘Ahii’ FC dominated Gabonais FC by two goals to one, to lift the coveted trophy. The epic final game that produced electrifying soccer to the admiration of hundreds of spectators amongst them the Divisional Officer of Bangem, Kanga Felix, the Mayor, Nhon Ekungwe Christopher Kang and the Cup Donor, Ngole Elvis Etuge.
