They received their diplomas recently from LINAFI in Limbe.
The Limbe Nautical Arts and Fisheries School (LINAFI) has turned out another batch of 114 technicians trained in two years. December 16, 2023 was hectic for the Limbe-based LINAFI that hosted another fiesta to see off fresh graduates rewarding them with University Technology Diplomas. "Today, we are graduating, 66 marine engineers, 19 navigators (those involved in Industrial Fishing), 25 Fisheries Technology and 14 in Aquaculture," explained Dr. Eta Collins Ayuk, Director of LINAFI when presenting the School graduates. LINAFI was created in 2015 by the Cameroon Government to train professionals in the fisheries industries to ensure that the business of fishing in the country is done in a more professional, sustainable and profitable manner.
The 114 fresh technicians are the second cohort of the school’s existence. The LINAFI’s Director noted that this was a plus to the fisheries sector in Cameroon with 80 per cent invasion by foreigners. The Secretary General at the South West Governor's Office, Acha Gilbert Nkweti sat in for the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry to chair the event. "We are aware that the fisheries sector plays an important role in the economy of our country and its contribution to create wealth, employment and food security remains a constant quest," the SG noted.
