AFCON 1988 : Second Crown

Cameroon beat Nigeria 1-0 in the final of the competition to lift the prestigious trophy in Casablanca, Morocco.
Cameroonians will live to remember March 27, 2023. Cameroon won its second AFCON trophy in the final that took place at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco. The final match between Nigeria and Cameroon was highly awaited by fans in Cameroon. Many people hurried back home after their daily charges in order to watch the encounter. The easiest means to get information on the match was the radio and television. Not many homes could afford TV sets. As a result, many people watched the match in the homes of neighbours who had TV sets and some even watched through windows.
In Yaounde for instance, only bars and beer palours with TV sets had the greatest numbers of customers. No matter where people watched the match, Cameroonian fans were expecting nothing other than a victory for the Indomitable Lions. They had tasted victory four years before when Cameroon won the first trophy in 1984 and so they watched attentively as the match was going on. It was all suspense during the first half and hopes were not gone. At the 55th minute when Kunde Emmanuel scored from the penalty spot, it was total support for the Indomitable Lions. Many prayed that Cameroon will increase the goals to be on the safe side but it was the lone goal of the encounter.
At the sound of the final whistle, there was an explosion of joy among fans in all the neighbour...
