Lauren Etame Mayer was just 23 back then when continental glory dawned on him. The young Cameroonian midfielder, agile and determined, apart from being crowed champion of 2000 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon, he earned the most prestigious individual award of Best Player of the tournament cohosted by Ghana and Nigeria. Oh yes; in the midst of several prolific strikers, a midfielder was named player of the tournament.
