Chad Presidential Election : Mahamat Deby Declares Candidacy

It was on Saturday February 2, 2024 during a ceremony organized by the coalition formed for the election by the MPS party.

The head of Chad’s Transitional Military Government, Mahamat Idriss Deby has announced his candidacy for May 6, 2024 Presidential Election. General Mahamat declared his candidacy on Saturday, March 2, 2024 during a mega meeting organized by members of coalition championed by the Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) party, at the large amphitheater of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He said in front of thousands of supporters present that, “After calm and deep reflection, I have decided to follow up on the choice you made of our modest person as a candidate for the coalition for a united Chad. I accept the coalition’s requests with humility.”
Also on the rostrum during the investiture was the head of the MPS party (former ruling party which now supports the candidacy of General Mahamat Idriss, created by the late President, Idriss Itno Deby), Mahamat Zene Bada said, “Whoever wants to be crushed just has to go in front of us,” adding “We will bring you 65% of the votes, you will go and get the rest.” He praised the “resilience” of Chadians and defended the work of the transition, mainly maintaining the stability of the country in a sub-region “where a simple spark can ignite an entire country,” Mahamat Zene Bada reiterated.
