Haiti : Transitional Council Appoints New Government

The mission of the new government that was announced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 is to strategize on how to bring peace in the country.

 

After several weeks of concertation, Haiti’s Transitional Council has appointed a new government. The government that was announced on Tuesday, 11, 2024 marks the final step in rebuilding the government that will lead the country under siege by gangs. The announcement came two weeks after the council appointed Garry Conille, a former regional director for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as interim Prime Minister.
According to the government, Carlos Hercules, the attorney for Prime Minister, Garry Conille, was appointed Minister of Justice and Public Security. While Prime Minister himself will take charge of the Interior Ministry. Jean Marc Berthier Antoine will be Defense Minister. Dominique Dupuy, a UNESCO Ambassador who was once a member of the Transitional Council before resigning, will head the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Others in the new Cabinet that has four women include, Ketleen Florestal, Minister of Economy and Finance. Florestal previously worked at the World Bank as adviser to the executive director for Haiti. All members of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s cabinet have been replaced.
