Cameroon Tribune @50 : Gov’t Salutes Successful Evolution

The Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, yesterday July 1, in Yaounde launched week-long activities to grace five decades of existence of the national bilingual daily.

Monday July 1, 1974 to Monday July 1, 2024, the National Bilingual Daily newspaper, Cameroon Tribune is 50 years old. Activities to celebrate the golden jubilee were launched yesterday July 1, 2024 at the headquarter of the newspaper by the Minister of Communication, Government Spokesperson, Rene Emmanuel Sadi. After giving the evolution of the newspaper over 50 years, the Minister of Communication said today, Cameroon Tribune can be considered, without being overbearing, as a success story and a source of pride to the nation. He was speaking in the presence of several other government ministers and special guests.
As the newspaper crosses the line of its first fifty years of existence, the challenges facing it remain legion. This calls for greater determination and commitment, both on the part of the governing bodies of its publishing company, and on the part of all its operating staff. Hence, the Minister of Communication assured the management that the State, for its part, will continue to play its fundamental role by supporting the paper achieve the objectives assigned to the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, the publisher Cameroon Tribune, so that the next fifty years of its existence will ensure performance, efficiency and greater influence.
Worth remembering on the occasion is that Cameroon Tribune was born out of the State's willingness to endow the then monolithic media landscape with a first-rate public service press, capable of providing a timely and significant response to the population's needs for information, education and entertainment, both within and abroad. The Government Spokesman reiterated that Cameroon Tribune is not a pro-government newspaper, as some people tend to claim, but a daily newspaper published by a public service company whose sole shareholder is the State. By virtue of this status, the Minister of Communication said Cameroon Tribune should above all subscribe to the three essential missions that are incumbent on any public service throughout the world and which do not necessarily apply to the private sector. As such, the newspaper should continue with its mission to inform the public about national and international news; to inform the public on what public authorities are doing and promote the values of national integration, our cultural identity, tolerance and respect for the diversity of our country...
