Cameroon – USA Partnership : diverse Gifts For IDPs

The food consignment was received in Doula on 1 July, 2024.

A delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID Cameroon) was in the port of Douala on 1 July to witness the arrival and unloading of a ship carrying 3,500 tons of rice donated by the American people through the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), and destined for WFP operations in Cameroon.
The delegation, led by Philippe Accilien, USAID Resident Representative in Cameroon, and John Grabowski, Regional Humanitarian Advisor of the USAID West Africa Office, also visited the WFP warehouse to get first-hand information on the food stocks in the warehouse. At each stop, the delegation was briefed on the situation of food stocks at the Douala ports. The food, including 70,000 bags of rice, vegetable oil and wheat, to name a few, is destined for the vulnerable populations of Adamawa, East, Far North, North, North West and South West regions, who are suffering from food shortages as a result of various crises in the different regions.
The food comes at a crucial time when humanitarian funding is falling sharply and the number of people facing acute food insecurity across the country is in the millions. More than ever, there is need for concerted efforts to provide food and nutritional assistance to the most vulnerable families," said Philippe Accilien, USAID Representative in Cameroon. He added that the food will go a long way in supporting the nutritional needs of the IDPs.
