Paris Olympic Games : Paul Biya’s Participation Remains Legendary

The Cameroon’s Head of State held a tête-à-tête with his French counterpart at Élysée Palace, took part in a luncheon offered world leaders there before heading to Trocadéro for the official opening ceremony of the Games on Friday July 26, 2024.

As the over 10,500 athletes battling for medals in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games intensify competition in the various grounds here in Paris, the Games’ organisers are certainly already filing the records of the Games. And such will have President Paul Biya of Cameroon as one of the main off-the-pitch actors.  He being one of the over a hundred world leaders invited by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron and the International Olympic Committee President, Thomas Bach to attend the official opening ceremony. Two invitations from two noteworthy world leaders addressed to one President for one ceremony, telling of the place Cameroon and their leader occupy in France’s diplomatic policy and the global sports movement in general. There was everything here in Paris to ascertain this.
President Paul Biya honoured the dual invitation and arrived in Paris on Wednesday July 24, 2024 in the company of First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya. The Head of State’s accompanying delegation, comprising among others the Ministers of External Relations, Youth and Civic Education as well as that of Sports and Physical Education spoke volumes of his expectations from the Games. Besides being a sports event with Cameroon lining up six flagbearers, the Olympic Games are equally an avenue to promote the values of excellence, respect and friendship. These are all virtues needed by Cameroonian youth in a morally-declining world.
Activities At Élysée Palace
Remarkable about President Paul Biya’s presence in Paris was his tête-à-tête with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, at Élysée Palace on July 26, 2024. The close to an hour high-level in-camera talks gave the leaders of Cameroon and France the opportunity to evaluate the path covered in multifaceted mutually-beneficial relations between Yaounde and Paris. With fresh political developments in France and the upcoming political consultations in Cameroon, it is certain that the two Heads of State examined the stakes and challenges and obviously charted a way forward in the best interest of their respective nations and peoples. 
A few hours after the Paul Biya-Emmanuel Macron conclave, the Cameroon’s Head of State returned to the Élysée Palace again, this time around with his spouse Mrs Chantal Biya, for a luncheon offered the Heads of State and Government and other world sovereigns by France’s First Couple, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.
