ECCAS International Sambo Open : Cameroon Grabs Nine Gold Medals

That is the outcome of the first edition of the competition that ended at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

The national anthem of Cameroon was sung several times and the flag flew high during the closing of the first edition of the ECCAS (Economic Community of Central African States) International Sambo Open tournament on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde. Organised by the Cameroon sambo Federation in collaboration with the African Sambo Confederation, the competition brought together over 100 athletes from the eight countries in the ECCAS Sub Region and beyond. The athletes competed in the sambo combat and the sports. Weigh-ins took place on Friday September 27, at the Mfandena Gymnasium before the competition proper the following day. September 28, 2024 began with the qualifying rounds in the men’s and women’s categories in the morning before the finals in the afternoon. A total of 11 finals were on programme in several categories. 
At the end of the competition, Cameroon emerged overall winners, winning a total of 12 medals; nine gold and three silver. Morocco was second with two gold medals and the DR Congo was third with four medals; one gold and two silver and one bronze. Gabon equally finished on the third spot with four medals; three silver and one bronze. DR Congo and Gabon were brackets on the third place.
