Energy Confab : Ministers Knot Views On Oil & Gas

The 46th session of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO) rounded off with many decisions taken.

The major event bringing together African oil producers to discuss major energy issues reached its high point on Friday with the holding of the 46th session of the Council of Ministers. 
The Council, which had in attendance Ministers and heads of delegation from 18 member countries of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO), after keenly examining submissions from various committees (audit, budget and finance, long-term strategy) and the 19th session of the Executive Council, decided on some key issues, including the development of the African Energy Bank (AEB), an initiative launched jointly with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The Council reaffirmed the resolve of its member countries to commit to the success of the Africa Energy Bank in its quest for funding for energy industry and the development of energy infrastructure in the various regions of the continent for energy security and sustainable development of the continent.  It expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the establishment of the Africa Energy Bank noting that with the signing and ratification of the Establishment Agreement and Charter of the Africa Energy Bank by two countries, namely; Ghana, Nigeria, the treaty establishing the bank has effectively come into force.
