Fashion Design : First Lady Encourages Budding Talents

This was during a fashion parade to grace the 15th edition of the Fashion and Design Careers Forum on Saturday November 23, 2024 in Yaounde.
Some 20 fashion designers, three different fashion parade sessions and the award of prizes marked an end to the 15th edition of the Fashion and Design Careers Forum which took place on Saturday November 23, 2024 in Yaounde. The event which was graced with glamour and colour took place under the watchful eyes of the First Lady of Cameroon, Chantal Biya, and a host of other national and diplomatic dignitaries. The First Lady was visibly pleased as young fashion designers in Cameroon as well as renown stylists showcased their upcoming line of clothing and accessories during the fashion week in Cameroon which started on November 16, 2024.
By 8:00 p.m., all was set for the fashion parade. The red carpet unfolded for special guests. The runway glitters with the necessary lighting and the arrival of the First Lady kicked started the event which lasted close to two hours. The first part was reserved for speech making. The Director of the Cameroon Fashion Designers Centre, Yves Eya’a took to the podium to reveal that they were celebrating 15 years of passion, creativity and impact through the Fashion and Design Careers Forum, also known as Fashion Week. For 15 years, he said the Cameroon Fashion Designers Centre has supported and represented the most beautiful Cameroonian fashion brands. The Forum, he added, has always been a platform to exchange ideas, meet new talents celebrate immense talent from different designs worldwide especially emerging Cameroonian designers’ talents.
One of the sponsors of the event, who is also the Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bassilekin III, said over the years, the Forum has gradually established itself as a moment to celebrate “Made in Cameroon” from creative genius of young designers. In its desire to work resolutely for the economic emergence of the country, the government has made the craft sector, and the cotton-textile-clothing sub-sector in particular, a pillar of its action to boost the national economy. Achille Bassilekin III said the government is setting a course for better promotion of Made in Cameroon, through the development of the fashion and design industry, the modernization of production tools, the promotion of innovation and the creative genius of fashion artisans. He urged national and foreign investors to deploy in the sector, take advantage of its immense potential and promising prospects.
