Football : Young Cameroonians Progressing Abroad

Mostly trained in home academies, these folks are gaining more experience in European clubs to better-off their careers.
Cameroon football continues to nurture a rich crop of young talent, with a growing number of youth talents showcasing their skills in Europe. Mostly trained in domestic academies, these promising youngsters are gaining valuable experience for their future careers.
One such academies, Academy Foot of Douala, has emerged as a key player in this success story. Several players honed their skills at this prestigious institution before making the leap to French side Montpellier. Leading the charge is Glenn Ngosso, a 21-year-old center-forward who has already integrated the Montpellier first team. Ngosso's journey began at Academy Foot before he moved to Elite Falcons in Dubai. Impressing during a trial, he joined Montpellier's B team and, through consistent hard work and dedication, earned a well-deserved promotion to the senior squad in July 2024. 19-year-old defensive midfielder Yvan Djemba Mbappe joined Montpellier's reserve team in July 2023 from Academy Foot. Djemba Mbappe continues to impress and is steadily working his way towards a first-team appearance. Another Academy Football graduate, 18-year-old goalkeeper Kevin Kamdem, joined Montpellier's U-19 team in March 2024 and quickly progressed to the reserve side in July 2024.
The success stories extend beyond Montpellier. Ecole de Brasseries, another renowned home-based academy, has produced several promising talents currently playing in Europe. Carlos Baleba of Brighton is already a household name. Away from him, Malloum Aboubakar Dalbai, a 20-year-old right-back, has been a key member of Dijon FCO's reserve team since September 2022.
