Product Quality In Cameroon: Authorities Assess Strengths, Challenges

A forum to discuss the strides made so far in ensuring that quality products circulate in Cameroonian markets was organised by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Yaounde on June 5, 2025. It held under the theme “Product marking and brand standardization in Cameroon- Legal and regulatory frameworks: Techniques and challenges.” The seminar brought together stakeholders from the Directorate General of Customs, the Standards and Quality Agency and the U.S. Embassy. The need to protect brands has come at a time when smuggled goods and counterfeits are in persistent circulation in the economy. During the seminar, stakeholders called on brand owners to protect their creations and customers, as a solution to combat the spread of goods that do not follow regulation. The deputy U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, John G. Robinson, highlighted that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), which are legal protections that give producers exclusive rights to their brand, are crucial for innovation and economic growth.
