World Environment Day : Littoral Re- enforce Fight Against Plastic Pollution

This year’s edition in the Littoral region underscores a collective and unwavering mobilization against plastic pollution.
Stakeholders in the Littoral region have reaffirmed their determination to fight against plastic pollution. This was during the celebration marking the 53th edition of the World Environment Day on June 5, 2025. This year's event rallied authorities, environmental stakeholders under the theme, "Fight Against Plastic Pollution." The collective aim of the theme was to drastically reduce plastic waste to safeguard both public health and precious ecosystems.
During celebration in Douala, the regional delegate of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development for Littoral, Edouard Yogouda, underscored the critical role of World Environment Day within Cameroon's national strategy to combat plastic pollution, a strategy set to achieve significant milestones by 2035. Mr Yogouda acknowledged plastic's undeniable presence in modern life but stressed the urgent need for sustainable waste management and reduced consumption. The secretary general of the Littoral governor’s office, Aboubakary Haman Tchiouto, further reiterated Cameroon's unwavering commitment to enforcing regulations against non-biodegradable plastics. He praised the crucial contributions of various stakeholders, organizations, and partners supporting the ministry in the vital endeavour, reiterating that plastic pollution poses a severe danger to health and the environment.
