GP Holiday Sports 2025: Activities Launched

A total of 2000 children from across the country are taking part in the seventh edition of the championship that kicked off on June 20, 2025 in Yaounde.
The Sports Complex of the Presidential Guard in Obili, Yaounde was exceptionally busy on Friday June 20, 2025. The event was the launch of activities to mark the seventh edition of the Presidential Guard Holiday Championship. Organised by the Presidential Guard Sports Centre the competition brings together 2000 children from schools across the country. The holiday championship will run till August 13, 2025. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Presidential Guard, Colonel Raymond Jean Charles Beko’o Abondo. The highlight was a march past of the different delegations. After the march past, Colonel Raymond Jean Charles Beko’o Abondo had a guided visit to the different sports workshops. He went through all the workshops and watched the children display talents in the different sports disciplines. Indomitable Lions’ captain, Vincent Aboubakar, was also present to encourage the children. The children are participating in 22 sports workshops and are being coached by 150 military and civilian trainers. The different sports disciplines include athletics, badminton, basketball, day care, self-defence, dance, equitation, football, handball, judo, sports for all, karate, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, and volleyball among others. Children with intellectual deficiencies participate in football, basketball and badminton. Exercises take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
