2027 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers : Cameroon Shines In First Window

The Basketball Lions delivered a strong surprise by defeating South Sudan 60-56 yesterday in Rades, Tunisia, securing two wins out of three games.
The first window of Group A in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers wrapped up on November 30, 2025, in Rades, Tunisia. Cameroon capped the round with a convincing win over South Sudan (60-56), following their earlier 77-71 victory against Libya on the second day of this window. Despite a disappointing start against Cabo Verde on the opening day, Coach Alfred Aboya’s squad rebounded well, leaving with a positive 2-1 record as they look ahead to the second window scheduled for February 2026.
Sixteen teams are competing in the African Qualifiers over five windows to claim one of five spots at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, set to take place in Doha, Qatar.
In the First Round, the teams are divided into four groups of four. Each team plays the other three teams in their group twice, across two tournaments during the first three windows, totalling six games per team.
