The event in Pinyin Clan in Mezam Division of the North West Region runs from December 19, 2025 to January 1, 2026. Mannjim, the people say, is more than just a celebration.
In the heart of Mezam Division of Cameroon’s North West Region, the festive air pulsates with excitement and anticipation as Muwah village kicks off its most significant cultural event of the year - the Mannjim Festival. This year, however, the festival holds a deeper significance as it marks the homecoming of His Majesty King Muluh Taka IV, who returned home from South Africa on December 19, 2025 - after nearly 10 years of absence. His return symbolizes not just a royal homecoming, but a reunion with his people, showcasing resilience, unity, and a renewed commitment to cultural heritage amid challenging times.
Historical Context
Muwah Kingdom boasts a rich history characterized by strong leadership and communal bonds. The late Fonji Taka III, King Muluh Taka IV's father, played a pivotal role in establishing the Mannjim Festival as a platform for cultural expression and community bonding. Tragically, the late king “went missing” at the height of the armed conflict plaguing the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon since 2016, leaving a power vacuum and a yearning for stability within the Pinyin Clan.
In Absentia
The absence of a formally enthroned king during this tumultuous period led to a season of chieftaincy disputes and unrest within the clan. The return of King Muluh Taka IV presents an opportunity to mend these rifts and reinforce the clan's identity, harmony, and culture. As the new royal leader, King Taka IV is driven to continue the legacy established by his father while also advocating for modern approaches to community issues.
The Role Of Mannjim Festival
The Mannjim Festival stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Muwah people. Traditionally, the festival features a series of cultural activities designed to invoke the ancestral spirits and honour the heritage of the Pinyin Clan. This year, the festival is particularly poignant, with its theme focusing on "Peace, unity, and heritage." It aims to bolster relationships within the community and foster an environment that promotes togetherness, particularly in light of the clan's historical challenges.
Reconnecting With Their Roots
Furthermore, the festival serves as a cultural renaissance, inviting all members of the Pinyin Clan to reconnect with their roots, engage in traditional practices, and celebrate their shared ancestry. The theme reflects the pivotal values that the Muwah community holds dear - namely, the belief that peace is integral to progress and that unity among the people can conquer adversity.
Long-Awaited Arrival
As December 19, 2025 dawned, the atmosphere at Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport was electric with anticipation. Hundreds of subjects, traditional leaders, and friends from the Pinyin Clan gathered to welcome King Muluh Taka IV back to Muwah. Among them were kingmakers - leaders and influential figures from the village - who play a critical role in the traditional selection and enthronement of the king.
And He Finally Landed!
The emotional weight of this moment was palpable as King Taka IV descended from his flight, greeted...
