CAMES Accreditation Competition : Enhancing Cameroon’s Performance

This was examined and resolved during a meeting between the CAMES institution and the Ministry of Higher Education, on January 5, 2026 in Yaounde.
Cameroon's performance in the CAMES Accreditation Competition, a key promotion process for senior university lecturers (Professors) across various disciplines within the Higher Education Sector, has been a subject of considerable concern in recent years, marked by a notable decline in success rates. Recent statistics reveal a stark decrease in the success rate, plummeting from 76 per cent to 23 per cent between 2020 and 2024. This downward trend underscores the challenges faced by universities in meeting the requisite standards, with numerous candidates struggling to pre- pare their files to satisfy the evaluation criteria. It is against this backdrop that the Mi- nister of State, Minister of Higher Edu- cation, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, convened a meeting on January 5, 2026, in Yaounde, with members of CAMES, Rectors, and heads of institutional com- missions from all State universities. The session centred on bolstering the ca- pacities of local institutional commis- sions to effectively prepare candidates for the Aggregation Competition, whilst utilising the CAMES evaluation guide for lecturers and researchers.
