Bamenda: Grandiose Celebration

The 41st edition of the International Women’s Day in Bamenda on March 8, 2026 registered massive participation.
Women from the defence and security forces, Penitentiary Administration, administration, ministries, semi-State institutions, Regional Assembly, Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, University of Bamenda, City and Local Councils and the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) political party all showcased their prowess and attachment to nation building at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand on March 8, 2026. The thrilling march past which was the key crowning activities marking the 41st edition of the International Women’s Day 2026 was presided at by North West Regional Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique. The event celebrated on the theme, “ Rights, justice, action for all women and girls,” kicked started at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand with the award of prizes to teams that won the various sporting activities organized within the framework of the celebration week. The female mayors of the North West Region also gave a recognition award to the spouse of the Regional Governor, Madam Lele Corine. In addition to the march past that was the most catchy part of the event, the women in particular also went back home with messages of appreciation, encouragement and motivation to step up their peace mission in the security crisis-ridden region, though peace is gradually returning to many communities. Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique presented an address to the women after having listened to their representative state the plight of the North West women and girls further exacerbated by the security crisis. The women have however, remained resilient, strong and visionary demonstrated through diverse activities. They are advocates of dialogue, reconciliation and peace and have been working to translate the above-cited values to concrete realities on the field. Concerning the theme, the women through their representative want justice that must be visible and promises translated into concrete actions.
