The three-day opened in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde on April 27, 2026. With national and international employers exhibiting their services and products.
As the global economy undergoes a seismic shift driven by digitalization and new industrial paradigms, Cameroon has indicated its intent to remain a leader in Sub-Saharan Africa by placing its workforce at the absolute center of its development strategy. From April 27-29, 2026, the political capital, Yaounde will transform into a vibrant hub of professional activities for the 5th WorkUp Cameroun labour fair.
With theme, "Stand for a bright Cameroon," this edition - hosted at the esplanade of the Centre Regional Council and Djeuga Palace Hotel - represents more than just an event; it is a conceptual revolution in the valuation of human merit.
From "Grande Nuit" To WorkUp
The transition from the "Grande Nuit des Travailleurs" (the Workers' Grand Night) to the WorkUp marks a significant maturation in how the country views labor. According to Zephyrin Koloko, President of the Organizing Committee and a respected figure in Cameroonian media, the redesign is an answer to the "profound shifts in contemporary economies."
"WorkUp Cameroun is far more than a simple name change," Koloko asserts in an editorial. "It represents a major conceptual shift based on a bilingual, inclusive, and forward-looking vision." This evolution has moved the project from a singular evening of awards into a multidimensional system that integrates a Workers' Fair, a Grand Job Market, and high-level thematic conferences.
Aligning With Presidential Vision
The 5th WorkUp workers’ fair does not exist in a vacuum; it is deeply rooted in the institutional and political framework of Cameroon. The organizers have explicitly aligned the fair with the socio-professional integration goals of President Paul Biya. By citing the Head of State’s 1983 declaration - “Economic development must go hand in hand with social justice” - the event reinforces the idea that productivity is inseparable from the dignity of the worker.
Reflecting this national importance, the 2026 event has received the High Patronage of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute. The Prime Minister’s official endorsement on February 12, 2026, serves as a State-level validation of the fair's objectives: stimulating sustainable job creation and strengthening the competitiveness of both public and private enterprises.
Metric For Success
While many professional fairs focus on networking, WorkUp Cameroun 2026 has set a concrete, quantifiable target: the recruitment and placement of at least 12,000 young people into public and private companies. This "Workforce Placement" initiative is designed to bridge the chasm between the burgeoning skills of the youth and the operational needs of the national economy.
The Grand Job Market, scheduled for the first two days of the event, will serve as the primary engine for this goal. It offers job seekers direct access to Human Resource Directors, career coaching, and immediate interview opportunities, effectively bypassing the traditional, often stagnant, recruitment cycles.
Ambassador For Sustainable Innovation
To inspire the next generation of "Unstoppable Youth," the organizing committee has designated Serge Ngassa as the 2026 Ambassador. Ngassa’s trajectory - from a 14-year-old budding entrepreneur to the founder of Ngassam Farm and the internationally acclaimed Cocoa Valley in Switzerland - embodies the "Made in Cameroon" success story.
Ngassa’s role at the fair is two-fold. First, he serves as a living proof that Cameroonian raw materials (specifically cocoa) can be transformed into high-end artisanal products that dominate global stages. Second, his commitment to fair wages and rural working conditions serves as a blueprint for Corporate Citizenship. His presence challenges young attendees to blend economic performance with deep social responsibility.
Three-Day Odyssey Of Excellence
The structure of the event is designed to cater to every segment of the professional ecosystem: A space for ministries, government agencies, SMEs, and large corporations to promote their services and discover new partnerships. High-level panels and colloquiums will tackle the challenges of modern work, focusing on how innovation can foster sustainable employment.
Targeted investor meetings will take place to secure funding for innovative projects presented by young entrepreneurs. The grand finale at the Djeuga Palace Hotel as a solemn awards gala will celebrate the "merit and excellence" of the nation’s top workers, reinforcing the culture of performance that the government seeks to instill across all sectors.
Zephyrin Koloko’s Leadership
Behind the logistical and strategic success of WorkUp stands Zephyrin Koloko. As the publisher of L’Avenir and head of the Cameroonian Communication Agency (ACACOM), Koloko brings a journalist’s eye for detail and a leader’s passion for national sovereignty. His work as the President of the Journalists' Mutual Society of Cameroon (MUJAC) has long focused on the welfare of professionals, making him the natural architect for a platform that celebrates the "heart of the Nation" - the worker.
Strategic Lever For Change
As Yaounde hosts this milestone event, the...
