The Technical and Vocational Education examinations were exempted by the Minister of Secondary Education from the recent two-week postponement of remaining General Certificate of Education papers.
Technical and Vocational Education, TVE examinations across Cameroon are proceeding smoothly, peacefully, and without hitches, educational authorities confirmed this Wednesday June 10, 2026. This successful continuation comes despite the recent postponement of remaining General Education, GCE papers due to widespread question paper leaks, which caused confusion and uncertainty across the country.
Effective Sensitization
According to Mr. Tarlishi Oliver Yinyu, the Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education for Donga-Mantung in the North West Region, the situation has been exemplary. All examination centers in the division opened normally with high candidate turnout. Yinyu attributed the success to effective sensitization by educational authorities, which ensured candidates were well-informed about the revised timetable and the distinction between the Technical, Vocational and General exams.
"The successful continuation of the examinations can largely be attributed to the effective sensitization carried out by educational authorities," Yinyu told Cameroon Tribune Online, noting that candidates remained calm and disciplined throughout the exercise.
No Confusion
In the Centre Region, principals reported similar success. At Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Nsam, Yaounde, the Principal, Mrs. Mary Amabo Halleson, also described the conduct of the afternoon papers as "very smooth." Mr. Wam Emmanuel, Principal of Saint Joseph Anglo-Saxon School Complex in Tropicana, Yaounde, stated that his 138 TVE candidates experienced no confusion regarding the postponement. He noted that while General Education students initially came to school to verify social media rumors, technical students were well-aware that their exams were proceeding.
Cross-cutting Subjects Put On Hold
However, authorities clarified that specific subjects common to both educational tracks have been rescheduled. School authorities in Yaounde, including Mr. Omaru Fai, the Dean of Studies of Amasia Bilingual College, Ekounou, confirmed that remaining papers such as Economics, Commerce, Religious Studies, French, and Computer Science have been postponed for TVE candidates. These subjects will be written once the General Education examinations resume.
"We have about 718 candidates here from five different technical schools," Mr. Fai said. "The rest is going on well, just that the subjects that cut across have been put on hold for now," Mr Fai clarified.
No Malpractices
The same view was echoed in the South West Region. Mr. Yerima Samnson Tata, Principal of Summerset Bilingual College, Wokoko, Buea, described the environment as decent and orderly. With 248 candidates writing at his center, Tata emphasized that unlike the General Education papers, the Technical exams have been free from malpractice and leakage issues.
"We have made sure that there should be some decency in the center. That our supervision is done perfect because when you allow collusion, the Board will not want to see you," Tata stated. He expressed bewilderment at the source of the leaks affecting the general exams.
Without Hitches
In Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region, Mrs. Ndzi Sarah Munji, Principal of Baptist High School, Ndop also confirmed that the TVE exams were going on without any hitches. Principals remain hopeful that the integrity of the Anglophone educational system will be maintained, praying that the leakage issues plaguing the grammar section do not spill over into the technical sector.
Awaiting Resumption
The ongoing TVE examinations are scheduled to conclude their initial phase on June 19, 2026, with candidates returning later to sit for the postponed common subjects.
