Population Housing and Livestock Census: Littoral To Attain 85% Coverage By July 31

A meeting to evaluate the second phase of the general population, housing, agriculture and livestock census took place on Friday July 10, 2026 in Douala.

T he census that started in May in the Littoral Region, saw agents working with the po­ pulation, religious leaders, traditio­ nal rulers and the administration to get better results. According to fi­ gures presented at the evaluation meeting, on Friday July 10, the Lit­ toral Region has attained only 35% coverage so far. The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieu­ donné Ivaha Diboua, said the rate is not encouraging and instructed that all Divisions must reach at least 85% coverage on or before July 31, 2026. The meeting that brought together all Senior Divisional Officers and Di­ visional Officers gave an opportu­ nity for the administrative authori­ ties to review the state of advancement, the difficulties on the ground, and the way forward. It came out from the meeting that the response rate in some divisions are encouraging while others are still lagging behind. In Sanaga-Maritime, Edea I has recorded 55% while Edea II stood at 30%. In Mungo, coverage is at 44.2%. Wouri Division has some of the best figures so far as Douala I is at 48.4%, Douala II at 50%, and Douala III at 32%. The Governor and his team identi­ fied several reasons for the low co­ verage in some localities. In Douala VI, agents face a language barrier, while in Dibamba, many areas are difficult to access.
