2030 World Cup: Probable Extension To 64 Nations

T he 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portu gal and Morocco. To mark the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930, three centenary matches will be played in Uruguay, Argen tina and Paraguay before the tournament officially gets under way in its three main host nations; Morocco, Spain and Portugal. The tournament then will become the first World Cup to be staged across six countries and three continents. But there could be another twist regarding the number of teams taking part. FIFA boss, Gianni Infantino, spea king to Swiss outlet Bluewin, in dicated that a 64-team tourna ment is an issue that will be exa mined and discussed by the re levant committees after the 2026 World Cup, which concluded on 19 July 2026. “Every nation should be allowed to dream of participating in the World Cup.
