Messages: Championing Peace, National Unity

This was the major content of the various wordings inscribed on banners at the May 20 Avenue.
Over 30 different messages centred around national unity for inclusive development could be read at the May 20 Avenue in Yaounde during the civilian marchpast of the 54th edition of the National Day. This was in line with the theme, “National Unity: Backbone of our Defence System, Bedrock of Cameroon’s Development.” The messages were in the two official languages (English and French) with each of the participating sectors having a specified theme. Wordings on banners carried by students of the basic and secondary education sectors centred on the theme of peace and security. Students within this segment had messages such as “Together for a stable and stronger Cameroon,” “I engage for my country,” and “Together, we are united in nation building.” On a global note, pupils and students in these educational levels promoted the principles of responsibility and patriotism in nation building. To them, whether online or offline, Cameroonians should collectively protect national unity on all fronts as citizens of the country. Other messages highlighted facts such as listening to others as it is part of living together, emergence is built one step at a time, peace and unity is imperative for a stronger future and no form of violence should be tolerated. Messages in the teachers training segment were on the theme innovation, education and emergence. Their banners had words that align to the opinion that youth and women are at the heart of economic transformation especially for innovation that targets equitable growth, the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity is a rich heritage and our culture is an asset for growth.
