2026 Commonwealth Games: Eseme… Historic!

3 2-year-old Emmanuel Eseme continues to amaze with his excep­ tional performances on the track. The Cameroonian sprinter once more flew the national flag high in Glasgow at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He defied the rain to win gold in the men’s 100m in 9.83 seconds on July 28, 2026. He had qua­ lified for the final after fi­ nishing first in semi-final (1) in 9.89 seconds. Winning the men’s 100m title is exceptional, but what makes this achievement truly historic is that he broke the national record and his personal best, while also setting a new Games’ record in the 100m, surpassing the mark set by Trinidadian Ato Boldon in Kuala Lumpur 28 years ago. Eseme’s gold was Cameroon’s first medal at the ongoing Games in Glas­ gow. What a performance, fini­ shing ahead of top-class athletes such as Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy and Nige­ ria’s Kayinsola Ajayi, who took silver and bronze res­ pectively. According to World Athletics, this performance places Eseme third on the African all-time list and also makes him the third-fastest sprinter so far this season.
