As end-of-year festivities approach, government has assured the availability of basic products in the local market. This was during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute on November 24, 2022. Three main presentations featured during the November cabinet meeting with the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana highlighting on supplying the national market with basic products on the eve of end-of-year feasts. The Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Madeleine Tchuinte expatiated on the contribution of research to the success of the import-substitution policy on general consumption products, and the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachi on the evolution of the epidemiological situation of the Covid-19, cholera and Monkey Pox.
In his opening statement, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute said the national context continues to be affected by international stocks and the Russia/Ukraine crisis. He added that scarcity of products in local markets is sometimes caused by suppliers, a situation, he noted, government keeps mobilisation resources to put under control.
Assuring the population of the availability of basic products, Trade Minister said items such as rice, wheat flour and pasta, beef, refined vegetable oils, sugar, fish, cooking salt and land products (maize, groundnuts, soya beans, onions and red millet, sorghum millet) will be readily accessible in markets across the national territory and in large quantities.
