Towards A New World Order : What China Envisions, Proposes

The Chinese Embassy in Cameroon on October 17, 2023 organised a symposium on the topic in Yaounde.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Wang Yingwu recalled that 2023 marks 10 years since Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed his country’s new vision for the world. That is why China in September 2023 published a whitepaper on the vision entitled, “A Global Community of Shared Future: China’s Proposals, Actions.” Speakers at the event included Prof. Nkolo Foe of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Prof. Ntuda Ebode of the University of Yaounde II; Dr Christian Pout and former cabinet minister, Jean Pierre Fogui. Who represented the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Party, CPDM.

Interlocked Futures
The whitepaper is based on the fact that the futures of nations is interlinked. This is indispensable for the good of the world… In the face of increasing crises, people and countries need to work more together. There is no place in the 21st Century for “the strongest-nation-take-it-all” situation, the Ambassador warned. “The whitepaper therefore means more commitment to China-Cameron cooperation,” Ambassador stressed.

Unstable Polity
He said China has embarked on modernization, inserting it in the development of other nations. “The world has undergone great changes in the recent past such as rivalries amongst nations and the rise in terrorism. There is therefore greater need to work together while respecting the choices of others,” the Chinese diplomat noted. Adding that ensuring global security was the key to global stability.

Over 3,000 Projects Completed
Meanwhile, since the launch of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, BRI 10 years ago, 3,000 cooperation projects have been completed, creating more than 4,000 jobs in partner countries. China has also put in place other initiatives in the domain of climate, culture, etc. China has for years remained Africa’s leading trade partner and the fourth biggest investor on the continent. And is ready to work with all countries to tackle the challenges of development, the Ambassador recalled.

Contributions To Trade Growth
According to the World Bank, the Belt and Road Initiative has increased the trade of participating parties by 4.1 per cent, attracted 5 per cent more foreign investments, and levelled up the Gross Domestic Product, GDP of low-income countries by 3.4 per cent. At the same time, batches of small scale agricultural, medical, and poverty reduction projects, being designed to address practical problems related to people’s livelihoods and well-being, and improve the production and living conditions of the people, have been notably successful, bringing a real sense of gain.
