Rugby Women’s Cup 2024 : Preparations Intensifies

Some 32 players are training intensively in Akono near Yaounde ahead of the competition that will take place in Madagascar from May 4 to 12, 2024.

The national women’s rugby V team will take part in the African Women’s Rugby Cup in Madagascar from May 4 to 12, 2024. Ahead of the competition, preparations have reached fever pitch within the national team. For close to two weeks, the women’s rugby IV team has been training intensively in their hide out in Akono, near Yaounde in order to put up an honourable performance in the competition. 
Organised by the Normalisation Committee, some 32 players were selected for the training session in the campus of Collège Stoll in Akono. The training session began with the third playing day of the national rugby V championship. The competition brought together players from clubs across the country. It equally served as preparation for the upcoming international challenge. The rugby Lionesses played a test match on Sunday April 21, 2024 in Akono. The match enabled the technical staff to have an idea of the level of work done during the training session. At the end of the training session, 28 players will be retained for the trip to Antananarivo, Madagascar.  
The President of the Normalisation Committee, Prof. Felix Onana who was on visit to Akono expressed satisfaction with the performance of the players. He said he believes that within one week the Lionesses will be ready to create a surprise in Madagascar.
