Enhancing Electoral Processes : Judicial Stakeholders More Committed

Recommendations were adopted at the end of the annual meeting of Courts and penitentiary officials chaired yesterday by the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso.

At the end of the annual meeting of Heads of Courts of Appeal and Regional Delegates of Penitentiary Administration in Yaounde yesterday December16, 2025, stakeholders unanimously agreed to upholding the rule of law and justice, most especially during the electoral period. Several recommendations were adopted at the end of deliberations chaired by the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso. Two main points characterised debates and they included; the role of Courts in the electoral period and guaranteeing security in prisons during the electoral period. The just-organised October 12 Presidential election and the November 30 Regional Elections served as the context for the thematic themes. 
Read in the two official languages, proposals made by the judicial stakeholders bordered on the need to allocating a special fund for the purchase of vehicles for heads of Courts to facilitate their movements in the execution of their duties, allocation of a special budget to penitentiary staff during an electoral period, a general increase on the budget of the Ministry of Justice in order to meet up with its assigned missions and implementing measures that can lead to the decongestion of prisons. It was also proposed that dialogue be initiated with the Ministry of Territorial Administration on preventive detention during the said period and revamping the process for the recruitment of penitentiary staff to meet up with their tasks.
