Kumba: Waste Transformation Plant Underway

This follows a town hall meeting for sustained collaboration between the council and citizens called by OPIC South West.
Household refuse which engulfs some road junctions in Kumba will soon be an economic product for the city. It shall be transformed into manure, biogas and many other byproducts. With the plant going operational, it shall provide jobs. Keeping the town clean and safeguarding climate change will also be a spinoff of the plant. All these dominated talks in a town hall meeting at the Kumba City Council hall on February 19, 2026. It was summoned by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the South West Region with prime goal to improve collaboration between the Kumba City Council and community stakeholders for sustained services delivery. Earlier, the Bishop of Kumba, His Lordship Agapitus Nfon, drew the attention of municipal authorities to heaps of waste which keep piling at various road junctions. Sometimes the dirt even hampers smooth traffic flow on the roads. He was joined by the President of Fiango Market, Samuel Njameleki. He complained of dirt that has piled up in the market and making it difficult for traders and customers to operate. The Bishop equally pointed to dry taps in various parts of the town. The City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory Mewanu, explained that the sand in the water treatment centre was being changed. A pipe bringing water to the water treatment centre from Lake Barombi was broken. Fortunately, all the repairs have been done. He promised the immediate evacuation of all the dirt in all the road junctions and Fiango market. The City Mayor of Kumba decried the irresponsible manner of dumping dirt in the streets by the population. Sometimes people even burn waste on the tarmac.
