Faux Soldiers, Fake Diplomats: Government Cracks Down On Impersonator Associations

In a major double-pronged crackdown on institutional impersonation, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration, MINAT, Paul Atanga Nji, on July 16, 2026 issued a series of decisive orders. Banning one highly controversial association and placing another on strict probation.  The ministerial directives aim to stop private associations from mimicking the uniforms and badges. And official titles of Cameroon's state security apparatus and the United Nations System.

Ban On Pseudo-UN Group

In a strongly worded press release, Minister Atanga Nji announced the immediate, nationwide prohibition of all activities linked to the association known as the "United Nations of Human Rights/General Intervention Police." The Minister officially withdrew the group's declaration receipt (No. 081/DA/JO5/BAPP/98). Which was issued by the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for the Mefou and Afamba Division in the Centre Region.

Confusing Titles

According to the Minister, the association - reportedly led by Mr. Honoré Mehoune Nkono - had been operating illegally across the country. Mr. Nkono reportedly went by flamboyant and confusing titles, including, “Vice High Commissioner General, General Officer for Human Rights, Ambassador for Peace, and Grand Master of the Shadow."

Uniforms, Insignia, Emblems

Beyond the bizarre nomenclature, MINAT revealed that the group’s acronyms, visual identity, and internal hierarchy were deliberately designed to resemble Cameroon's legitimate domestic institutions and international partners. Most alarmingly, its members regularly wore uniforms, insignia, and emblems that were "strikingly similar" to those of Cameroon’s Defence and Security Forces and the UN System.

Minister Atanga Nji has instructed all Regional Governors, SDOs, and Divisional Officers to ensure the immediate and total cessation of the group's activities in their respective jurisdictions.

"Chaplain Ambassadors Peace Mission"

In a separate ministerial release, the government turned its crosshairs toward another group, the "Chaplain Ambassadors Peace Mission," CAPM. Minister Atanga Nji warned that CAPM members have been wearing uniforms, insignia, and emblems that closely resemble those of Cameroonian security forces and United Nations agencies.
