South Sudan: Famine Threatens About 840,000 In North

The report from World Food Programme indicates that the situation is preoccupying in Bahr El Ghazal State in the north.

 

The World Food Programme (WFP) on Friday, October 6, 2016 warned that about 840,000 people were threatened by famine in Bahr El Ghazal State in the northern part of  South Sudan due to the lose of their purchasing power caused by the two-year civil war in the country, XINHUA news agency reported.

PAM Director in South Sudan, Joyce Kanyangwa Luma reportedly told XINHUA that  the  food security situation in the country was disastrous. She said  Bhar El Ghazal State faced a high level of food insecurity , specifying that six out of ten people in the State  are classified as facing acute food insecurity,  adding that one out of three children suffers from serious malnutrition.
