Human Rights Situation in Cameroon: Gov’t To Submit Report Before Continental Commission

The document prepared from an inclusive approach under three internal legal instruments ratified by Cameroon shall be submitted for consideration by the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.

In view of Article 62 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, State parties are required to submit every two years a report on legislative and other measures taken in relation to their protection of these rights recognised and guaranteed by the Charter. As a result, the government organised a workshop for the external validation of Cameroon’s combined 4th, 5th and 6th periodic reports under the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights and the first report under the Maputo Protocol and the Kampala Convention from 4 to 5 December at the Mi nistry of Justice in Yaounde. The 205 page document written in both official languages is divided into three parts. The first section deals with the implementation of the rights outlined in the Charter, while the second part is dedicated to the initial report under the Maputo Protocol with the final section highlighting the implementation of the rights contained in the Kampala Convention.
