Promotion Of Children’s Rights : UNICEF, Partner Award Prizes To Journalists
The ceremony in Yaounde on June 25, 2019 followed a three-month national contest.
In collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, the Network of Journalists for the Defence of Children’s and Vulnerable People’s Rights, REJODEC, on June 25, 2019 awarded prizes to 9 journalists whose works won a national competition on the promotion of children’s rights. Launched on March 2, 2019, the competition was open to all journalists in the country.
At the ceremony in Franco Hotel, Yaounde, Florence Elisabeth Mvondo epouse Essama, representing the Ministry of Communication, and Brigitte Helali of UNICEF, commended REJODEC for the initiative, saying it shows how much concern its members have for the promotion of children’s rights. They expressed also satisfaction with the high quality of entries.
The competition was in four categories – radio, television, print and online journalism – covering topics such as birth registration, vaccination and malnutrition. First prize winners in each category received a plaque, an attestation and 200,000 FCFA, while those in second place went home with an attestation and a cash prize of 100,000 FCFA. Third prize winners received an attestation and 50,000 FCFA.
In the radio category, Simon Nkot of Radio Salamaan, Garoua, Philippe Malong of Vitalis Radio, Bafoussam and Florence Memadi Temberth of Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV North, Garoua, came first, second and third respectively. In online journalism, Marianne Enow Tabi of
