Frequent consultation and early detection can save lives of many women and men from cancer.

In a global effort to raise awareness on breast cancer, this month has been designated as the “Pink Month” during which efforts to educate the population about the disease, such as eating healthy diet and getting regular screenings as a means to prevent or treat breast cancer, are being highlighted.

Statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that in 2018, an estimated 627,000 women died from breast cancer that is approximately 15 per cent of all cancer deaths among women. While breast cancer rates are higher among women in more developed regions, rates are increasing in nearly every region globally. This is why medical practitioners underline that people need to take care against breast cancer by eating a healthy diet and getting regular screenings. Information indicate that regular self-examination (breast palpation) and screenings for various types of cancers such as cancer of the skin, colon, cervix and breast can increase the chances of discovering cancer early, when treatment is most likely to be successful.
