Upcoming Elections : Decisive Time For Political Parties

Time is fast running out and political parties that intend to run for seats in the National Assembly and councillors in the 360 local councils in Cameroon in the upcoming elections are burning the midnight candle to fine-tune preparations. 
The near certainty for the organisation of the municipal council, legislative and probably regional council elections is based on the law which provides for no further extensions.  The President of the Republic, Paul Biya in conformity with the Electoral Code extended the terms of office of municipal councillors and Members of the National Assembly voted in the twin elections of September 30, 2013 two times and no further extension is possible.  He signed decree No.2019/378 of 15 July 2019 extending the term of office of municipal councillors elected on September 30, 2013 and previously extended by 12 months to now end on February 29, 2019. He equally promulgated into law the bill extending the term of office of Members of the National Assembly for two months with effect from October 29, 2019.  This implies that the term of office of Members of the National Assembly will end on December 29, 2019.  With the precisions, Cameroonians and the international community are waiting for the presidential decree convening electors to the polls for the municipal council and legislative elections that should take place in early 2020.
Stakeholders in the electoral process such as Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) is already  on the field fine-tuning the material preparations for the elections, cleaning of the electoral registers, accelerating the distribution of voters cards and training other actors.
