Climate Change: PM Yang Issues Mitigation Directives

Cameroon targets a 32-per cent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2035.

 

Prime Minister, Head of Government Philemon Yang on November 24, 2016 chaired a cabinet meeting on the ownership of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change  and the main conclusions of the Conference of Parties of Climate Change (COP 22)  summit that recently held in Moroccan city of Marrakech.

Philemon Yang instructed the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development to centralise mature projects for nature conservation and draft the necessary finance mobilization plan for their realization. He also instructed the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife to strengthen control mechanisms of activities to renew forest resources within the framework of developed plans. Prime Minister Yang also instructed him to put in place a new programme to develop forest plantations which comply with current challenges.  

The directives came after cabinet ministers listened to four presentations. The Minister of the Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, Hélé Pierre who represented Cameroon in the COP 22 summit, gave a talk on “the guidelines for the Intended Nationally Determined Contribution on the fight against climate change and the main conclusions of the “Conference of Parties” (COP) 22.”
