In each region, there are constituencies where competitions will apparently be stiff with regard to the number of seats and calibre of candidates.
The February 9, 2020 twin elections of municipal councillors and Members of the National Assembly promise fireworks in many localities throughout the country. The election of Members of the National Assembly in particular becomes attractive as new political parties will be vying for seats and the old ones deploying all strategies in terms of the choice of candidates and luring manifestoes either to maintain their seats or dislodge others.
Adamawa Region
The Mbere and Vina constituencies have retained the attention of keen political observers. Each of these constituencies have three seats with three political parties vying for the seats. In Mbere for the example, the new political party PCNC of the 2018 presidential candidate Cabral Libii will be battling to dislodge the traditional parties such as the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) and the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP). In Vina constituency, the new political party, UNIVERSE will also be battling to dislodge the CPDM and NUDP.
Centre Region
The Mfoundi constituency with seven seats in the National Assembly is highly coveted. Four political parties that include the ruling CPDM that has maintained hegemony over the constituency, will compete for the seats with the leading opposition party, SDF and other parties such as PCRN and PADDEC. The CPDM list is led by the prominent MP, Hon. Emah Etoundi Vincent de Paul assisted by another old MP, Hon. Djomgoue Paul Eric. The SDF list is led by one of its prominent leaders for the Centre Region, Ibrahim Aladji Soulenaou. The Nyong et Kelle constituency is another curiosity because the UPC that had the three seats therein in the just expiring ninth legislative period of the National Assembly is not on the starting block. Therefore, the three political parties that will be competing for the three seats are the CPDM that wants to come back. It will face stiff competition from the new political party PCRN whose list leader Libii Li Ngue Cabral won the 2018 presidential election in the area. PURS will also be fighting to win the seats.
East Region
The main hot spot in the East Regions will be the Upper Nyong constituency with three seats. The ruling CPDM that has been controlling the seats over the years, will be fighting to conserve them in a stiff competition with the lists from two political parties whose leaders are natives of the area. Therefore, Olivier Anicet Bile is heading the list of his party, UFP. The new party, RDI whose list leader is Chiya Zok Raymond also wants the seats.
Far North Region
Competition here will be intense in the Diamare Centre Constituency with two seats. The curiosity here is that seven political parties will be competing for the two seats. They include the CPDM, FSNC, ADD, NUDP, CRAC, ANDP and PADDEC.
Littoral Region
The Wouri East constituency with four seats and four competing political parties catches attention. The parties include CPDM, PADDEC, NUDP and SDF. The Sanaga Maritime with three seats is also another point of attraction. The constituency has three seats. What makes the constituency a centre of attraction is not only that five political parties are gunning for the seats but the calibre of list leaders. The CPDM list is led by the outgoing Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Budget of the National Assembly, Hon. Moutymboh Rossette Julienne epse Ayayi and that of MP by is President and former MP, Jean Jacques Ekindi. Other parties are PCRN, MEC and UDC.
North Region
Serious competition will be in the Mayo-Louti constituency that has four seats and four competing political par...
